Whether it’s a bright snowy mountain or a dark moody forest, photographer Kennett Mohrman captures expansive natural landscapes with both wonder and clarity.

Kennett Mohrman is always wondering how the world around him would look as a photograph. “Living in the northwest makes it especially hard,” he says. “I’m surrounded by both amazing natural landscapes and an amazing photography community here in Portland.” Mohrman moved from Florida to Portland, Oregon, because of the “epic landscape,” which plays a starring and stirring role in many of his images.

Mohrman captures the wilderness in a very dramatic way, often with the silhouette of one person very small off in the distance. “I really like showing the scale of how crazy and awesome the landscape that we are surrounded by is,” he says. “I love that people go to these epic places that can be so rugged and wild to have a moment of escape and peace. I hope that some of my images can translate that moment.” Mohrman visited the northwest United States every few years as a child and always knew he wanted to live there. “I feel very fortunate now to get to live in the part of the country that I’ve always felt so drawn to,” he says. His lifelong passion for the northwest can be felt through every piece of his work.
