The Curious Collection is simple, stylish & subtle and yet show stopping — it is limitless.

Otis College of Art and Design’s Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show is LA’s largest fashion runway event, with more than 70 professional models showcasing the work of 175 fashion designers.

This year, the theme for the event was LIMITLESS, where students created looks for all genders, shapes and sizes, under the guidance of professional design mentors from fashion brands ranging from Adidas to Ralph Lauren. At the show, approximately 800 guests get a glimpse of the future of fashion through the work of students who are demonstrating their skills, knowledge and creativity. The invite for such a prestigious event needed to reflect the spirit of the evening.

With the LIMITLESS theme, Otis’ design team was looking for a paper that had an element of glitz and glam; something that felt appropriate for a marquee fashion event and had enough personality to stand up against the various textures and textiles that would be a part of the runway show.

“I wanted the paper to be an element of the overall design of this piece,” said Sheharazad Fleming, Designer at Otis College of Art and Design. “Curious Collection Metallics Pink Quartz (Expressive Collection) did just that — it held up beautifully as a backdrop to simple typography, as well as to stylized lettering.”

“The paper accentuated the garment textiles in just the right way — the pink offering a hint of whimsy and subtle, but not too neutral color; the pearlized finish, adding texture and dimension, bringing a quality of movement to the invitation, just like fabric does for a garment.”

“It enhanced and gave a natural depth and dimension to the two photos, which were detail shots from two garments that were shown on the runway during the event,” Fleming continued. “The paper accentuated the garment textiles in just the right way — the pink offering a hint of whimsy and subtle, but not too neutral color; the pearlized finish, adding texture and dimension, bringing a quality of movement to the invitation, just like fabric does for a garment.”

“Sheharazad brought Mohawk and Typecraft into the conversation at the very early stages, which is always key to determining the best strategy and approach,” said Cassidy Davis, Business Development Manager – West, at Mohawk. “It allowed us all to collaborate and unite our expertise from all three perspectives — design, paper selection, and printing. It’s rare for this type of early collaboration to happen but when it does, it’s always advantageous.”

A Maker's Field Guide to Envelopes

An envelope is a simple and familiar form. It requires no power source or special reader to be held, read and understood. Equal parts function and first impression, an envelope has all the right elements to make any project exceptional.
