Wastewater Treatment System Operator — Cohoes, NY
The Operator is expected to carry out his/her duties in an efficient manner utilizing common sense and abiding by all safety, environmental and governmental regulations. As needed, the Operator is also expected to work overtime including weekend work and have the ability to accept call-ins for off hours support. Operator must maintain ongoing communication with immediate supervisor or other responsible personnel of availability for call-ins, and in the event of tardiness, absenteeism, or any other deviation from the planned schedule.

Primary Accountabilities:
Be familiar with all aspects of the treatment facility, including machinery and proper system operation.
- Monitor production operating schedule and all relevant mill and WWTP process variables
- Operate WWTP processes to achieve efficient wastewater clarification and solids de-watering.
- Conduct wastewater sampling, collect and prepare data for reporting.
- Schedule transportation and coordinate shipments of sludge for offsite disposal.
- Operate forklift.
- Assist with WWTP process improvements
Maintain Accurate Paper and Electronic Records.
- Record Flow and Process variables Data
- Maintain operations log and sample test data
- Document Mill Inspection and Housekeeping Rounds
- Basic computer skills required (Word, Excel, use of Email)
Work with chemicals used in wastewater plant.
- Manage wastewater plant chemical inventory.
- Maintain clarifier chemical feed system.
- Maintain chemical usage records.
- Assist in product performance tests.
- Develop good working relationships with vendors.
- Schedule transportation for returnable containers.
- Prepare returnable containers for shipment.
Wastewater sampling and testing.
- Collect Samples, prepare for shipment to labs.
- Perform routine testing, calibrate instruments and maintain supplies
- Perform basic calculations associated with sampling.
Maintain entire facility in a clean and safe condition.
- Conduct routine inspections of waste treatment plant and designated mill areas.
- Assure that all processes are operating efficiently.
- Notify mill personnel of operational problems and unusual occurrences.
Assist in pilot studies and research associated with WTP improvement activities.
Communicate waste water treatment plant concerns with mill supervisor or other responsible mill personnel
- Attendance at safety & production meetings as required
- Notification of observed impacts of production schedule
- Immediate notification of EHS incidents
- Necessary equipment repairs, maintenance or unsafe conditions
- Timely notice of tardiness, absenteeism, or other deviation from planned schedule
Assist management with waste and recycled materials inventories and preparation for offsite shipment.
Other duties as required.
