15 years of Milton Glaser and the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival was founded by flutist and Artistic Director, Linda Chesis in 1999.  Since then, hundreds of performances have featured world-renowned musicians and artists.

For the past 15 years, graphic designer Milton Glaser has produced an iconic poster to celebrate the Festival. Each design incorporates an image of a cow with a violin to visually tie the festival’s early days at The Farmers’ Museum to its regional hometown in rural Cooperstown, New York. And for many of those years, the posters have been printed on Mohawk Superfine Ultrawhite Smooth.

As the Summer Music Festival has grown in scale and in popularity, so has the collectable poster series. “This will be the 15th poster in his series for our intimate Festival and I believe Mohawk has been on board since the very beginning. What a fabulous legacy Milton has given us,” said Linda Chesis, Artistic Director.

Guess it’s not really a direct quote, but one of his works “Art is whatever remains” has been pretty influential to me.

“The real issue is not talent as an independent element, but talent in relationship to will, desire, and persistence. Talent without these things vanishes and even modest talent with those characteristics grows.”
