New! Letterpress journals & notecards from Chronicle Books, Boxcar Press and Mohawk

At Mohawk, we’ve long been fans of letterpress. Our fine papers practically beg to be pressed on a Heidelberg or Vandercook, and many designers and letterpress printers choose Mohawk for the beautiful, lush, tactile qualities of our fine papers.

As much as we love letterpress, we also cherish collaboration. A forward-thinking group, we’re always looking to create exciting new partnerships, opportunities and projects. So imagine our delight when we were presented with an opportunity to collaborate with some of our favorites: Boxcar Press and Chronicle Books.

In conjunction with these two incredible companies, we are thrilled to announce a new line of letterpress journals and notecards.

These beautifully illustrated journals and notecards were created by talented designers including Klas Fahlén, Masako Kubo and Michael Carabetta.  Each collection is made in New York State – made with Mohawk paper (Cohoes, NY) and hand printed by the talented print professionals at Boxcar Press (Syracuse, NY).

The Masako Kubo collection features notecards and journals designed by the artist who studied illustration in England and is now based in Tokyo, Japan. These delicate, earthy designs are elegantly inspired by nature and are sure to invoke a case of spring fever.

The Klas Fahlén collection features notecards and matching journals featuring bold colors and whimsical designs. The Stockholm-based illustrator is known for his sophisticated drawings which have appeared in New York magazine, Monocle, and in partnership with world renowned brands including Veuve Clicquot, and Kate Spade, among others.

The Briefly Noted collection features black and white typographical designs infused with bold pops of color. Michael Carabetta, creative director at Chronicle Books and a passionate advocate for artists, developed this collection to serve as an attractive, gender-neutral, all occasion line.

The 5 ½” x  8 ½” letterpressed journals are packaged in sets of two. Each features a letterpressed cover (2 designs) on Mohawk Via Felt Bright White 110# Cover, with 64 pages of unlined Mohawk Britehue 60T colored paper.

The letterpressed notecards are packaged in sets of 10 folded cards (2 designs) on Mohawk Via Felt Bright White 110# Cover, with 10 complementary colored envelopes (Mohawk Britehue 60T).

Here’s a quick behind-the-scenes look at the letterpress printing process at Boxcar Press. Notice the pride in the details and the true craftsmanship and dedication that Harrold Kyle and his team at Boxcar Press proudly display in this video.

These beautiful new products are proudly made in New York State, and are now available through Chronicle Books.  Hurry and place your order while they last!

I love LOVE the Masako Kubo collection. If these cards can’t get my dear sister to write back to me, I don’t know what will!

When it comes to inspiration, design is everything. The Masako Kubo collection reminds me of everything I love about spring—warmth, beauty, and happiness. For me, this season has always been a time to start fresh and reconnect, and I can think of no better way to do that than by sending loved ones a personal, handwritten message on one of these cards. It could just be a simple ‘hello’—but the design and quality of the card makes even that simple greeting feel intimate and special.

The Masako Kubo collection is my favorite!
I love how they play with the 2 ink design and the way they mix it up in the leaves. It would be an adorable thank you note for my wedding guests! <3

Masako Kubo collection – Florals are my huge weakness while I love the combination of a loud color paired with a neutral. Exhibits spring and summer vibes
