The many (type)faces of Ryan Gosling

Have you seen Typographer Ryan Gosling? It seems to have no reason to exist other than to amuse its mysterious creator … and the rest of us. So who is the man, woman or team getting our attention with a simple “Hey girl”? And why?

Do you know? Does Ryan Gosling know? The first one to give us the right answer gets a $50 gift certificate to Felt & Wire Shop. [KR]

I can’t kuhncoct the right answer, but will note that “fleurons” should not have an apostrophe and “palate” is misspelled. But I love the virtual bouquet idea. And “Let’s” is lacking its apostrophe. Hmmm… I have a measure of comfort in guessing that the writer might not be a native file. Or perhaps the bad grammar is a good ploy, the ad-quivalent of a pick-up line. Kuhnsumed with curiosity!

Hey Girl started on Douglas Reinhardt’s Tumblr blog, F_ _ _ Yeah! Ryan Gosling. And yup, the adorable actor knows and bless his heart, seems to find it just as cute and funny and has read some of the posts during interviews.

Since then, other Hey Girl blogs have popped up like this Typographer one you mentioned and this Feminist Ryan Gosling.

just FYI, “pallet” is not misspelled. Both “palate” and “pallet” are words but in this case, “pallet” is the appropriate spelling.

Im going to take a wild guess here and say that maybe Mario Testino is behind all of this? He seems to have a special affinity for Ryan…

Dear GbN: You are right that “palate” and “pallet” are both words, but glyphs are typically found in the glyph palette, yet another spelling. Although I guess you could pun that your favorite characters suit your personal “glyph palate.” Regardless, I hope you win the gifty certificate!

Thank you, Dorkys, for filling us in on the full story behind the Ryan Gosling phenomenon. And, congratulations, you’re gift card is on its way to you!

    Hi there,

I just wanted to clarify what Dorkys said. The Hey Girl meme did indeed start with Douglas Reinhardt’s F_ _ _ Yeah Ryan Gosling blog, but Typographer Ryan Gosling is not related in any way. I started it last month for kicks after seeing Feminist Ryan Gosling. Also, all of the grammar and spelling errors are non-ironic, just me not paying a lot of attention.

Hope that clears up the story a bit.
