“Paper+Craft” is the perfect creative union — with a DIY project for Thanksgiving

[Tom Biederbeck] For enthusiasts, there’s no sweeter spot than where paper and crafting intersect. It’s the focus of Minhee and Truman Cho’s Paper+Craft, an ingenious new book packed with unique hands-on paper projects. To show how impressive and easy to accomplish the projects in the book are, we’ve provided directions below (complete with online templates) for holiday-handy mini bags for expressing thanks. Read on.

I asked Truman and Minhee, founders of Paper+Cup Design, a Brooklyn studio that specializes in stationery and branding, how they came to develop a book of DIY paper creations.

Where did you acquire such great knowledge of crafting?
Minhee’s background is graphic design, but we mostly learned while running our business. We came to realize that a lot of what we do in our day-to-day lives actually involves crafting in some form. The premise of our book is that anyone can craft!

What is it about paper that makes it such an ideal medium for crafting?
Paper is the perfect blank canvas with endless possibilities … which at times can even be intimidating. Once you open your mind to creativity, though, paper is so accessible and easy to use and manipulate. The “limitless” quality of paper is actually what intrigued us into starting Paper+Cup Design.

The Thanksgiving holiday is approaching. All this week and next on Felt & Wire, we’re talking “thanks.” What are Truman and Minhee Cho especially thankful for this year?
We are so thankful for our new family. Our little guy, Truman Jr., just turned one, and we are head over heels in love with him. We are learning to juggle work and life and realize it is possible to have both. It’s a challenge every day, but we love what we do and wouldn’t have it any other way.
