Pam Williams: For she’s a jolly good Fellow

pam

Pam Williams wears many hats, only one of which you see here. Tonight, Pam will receive a feather in her cap — the 2012 AIGA Connecticut Fellow Award — in recognition of her design advocacy (perpetual), her design initiatives (inspired), her design writing (articulate and passionate). The evening’s festivities will include a video tribute to Pam’s myriad of contributions in the greater design community (tomorrow we’ll share the link). As the managing editor of Felt & Wire, Pam widens our horizons, elevates our discourse, and brightens our outlook. If you would like to add your congratulations to ours, please toast Pam here, so all of her friends can enjoy your comments.

From one Fellow to another, Congrats Pam. I was honored to receive this award as well from the Dallas Chapter a week back and I was so happy to have been included on the mail list when this was being announced. You are extremely deserving of the award and I just wanted to throw my hat in to say congrats. If you are ever in the Dallas area we must connect. Best regards and again, congratulations on a stellar career.

Tonight will be so much fun celebrating with all of Pam’s friends !
I remember the first time I met Pam ~ she was receiving about 20 awards at a CADC Awards Show for Williams & House ~ and I quickly noted that she laughed (loudly) the whole night. I thought YES ! that is a person I want to know better. Of course we love her CLOTHES ! and we love her Valentine CHOCOLATES in gorgeous poka dot boxes and pink tissue paper ( they match some of her outfits ) !
EVERYONE loves PAM ~ her whole agency is absolutely wonderful and cool !
COOL is the word here ~ PAM IS COOL !
And she gives back more than she receives ~ to the whole community of designers, and to all of us ! COOL !

Every time we work together I say a small prayer of thanks for the blessing that is you. You are truly a beautiful person inside, and as I can see from the above, out. :) Congratulations on a well-deserved honor.

To all of Pam’s friends and colleagues – I am not a “design friendly” nor artsy person. In fact I had little interest nor appreciation for the profession until I met Pam in 1996. I was learning a new business, Fine Papers, when i was introduced to Pam. She became a good friend and trusted advisor, and I learned about vision, creativity, enthusiasm, spirit, communications and all of the other great qualities and skills that Pam embodies.
Congratulations Pam – you’re the best! TK

I’d say congratulations but the Fellow award already says that, and more. Instead I’ll say ‘thank you.’ Thank you for your intelligence, grace, humor, perspective, energy, dedication, generosity, thoughtfulness, listening, advocacy, time, optimism and effort. Thank you for dedicating yourself to the success of others and your commitment to the belief that a rising tide lifts all boats. Thank you, also, for rising the tide.

AIGA is a better institution for your participation. Design is a better profession for your efforts. We could all be a little better at what we do for your example.

one of the highlights of my professional life has been the privilege of working alongside pam williams. her willingness to jump feet first into pretty much anything (whilst cackling) is refreshing. her ability to transform whatever that might have been into something very special is amazing.

one of the highlights of my personal life has been the privilege of numbering her amongst my friends.

    pam,
congratulations on an honor well-deserved. i regret that i could not be there in person to see it bestowed firsthand (the life-size cardboard cutout you currently have on file will have to suffice).

    To my dearest Pam,

During my flight to CT yesterday all I did was think about what you do. There’s the Pam Williams Touch alright and there’s being touched by Pam Williams. You never forget it, once it befalls you. Your spirit of generosity, your infectious laugh, your enriching energy, your obsessive love of detail are immediately felt.

It is such a thrill to be here in your beautiful home, looking at your spectacular garden, our morning walk was a horticulturist’sl fantasy. Your love of small details like the tiny Lilies of the Valley that are popping up is so typical of your style. Tonight will celebrate all that you are, have done and will do for a community of designers, writers, thinkers and creative geniuses, like the wall piece in your den says, “All you need is love.” Your colleagues, friends and admirers have said it so clearly.

I love you and will always be connected to you.

With my deepest appreciation and affection, I congratulate you for this wonderful honor.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to see you develop a body of work that is exemplary. But as the comments above attest, your true impact comes from the effect you have had on those who have worked with you. Pam, congratulations! You deserve this so much. You know how much I love you. We gave it a good shot, and even though the marriage only lasted 24 months, at least we left it friends and with two beautiful children. I tell Edgar and Drusilla about you every night before they go to sleep. They want to meet you someday, but as we agreed, you must kick the crack habit first. Love from all three of us. Sean
