Tom O’Connor, formally known as Thomas D. O’Connor, Jr., is the Chairman and CEO of Mohawk — which has been owned by his family since its founding 80 years ago. Eight weeks ago, Tom — which is what he likes everyone to call him — tweeted, “2012:
The new Mohawk. Good things coming one after another. We are much more than a paper company.” Today, he is excited to launch the company’s new brand identity. He talks about the transformation of Mohawk on the new website, MohawkConnects.com. See his video on the homepage. He’s very animated.
Click here to enjoy Tom O’Connor’s video, conceived by Pentagram, produced by Hillary Frank, and illustrated by Felix Sockwell, and to see the new M monogram, designed by Pentagram partner Michael Bierut and Pentagram associate Joe Marianek.

Tomorrow on Felt & Wire: Michael Bierut on rebranding Mohawk. Bierut was Pentragram’s Partner-in-Charge, leading the project team which included designers Katie Barcelona, Matt Delbridge, Aron Fay and Joe Marianek (who also wrote the campaign’s “What will you make today?” tagline).
Later this week on Felt & Wire: Michael McGinn on designing The New Mohawk product selector.
