We’ve been on the road with the HOW Design Live conference this week and are heading to Syracuse, NY next to take part in the Upstate NY AIGA Conference, Create Upstate. Here’s a quick overview of Design Week – it’s not too late to participate. Not from Upstate NY? That’s fine – participate in your local AIGA Chapter’s Design Week instead!
Design Week in Upstate NY includes events such as an all-week Type Hunt on social media, a Digital Publishing Workshop, a visit and talk from design and principal of Go Welsh, Craig Welsh, a statewide CMYK networking meetup, Design Educators Brunch, Adobe Workshop, and of course – Create Upstate design conference. You can see all of the event descriptions and sign up here.
We sat down with Sarah Burns, president of the Upstate NY AIGA chapter, to ask her a few questions.
What is the goal of design week?
The goal of Design Week 2014 is to celebrate our local chapter turning 25 and in return bring together our design community in a way we have not before. One of our largest challenges is our chapter spans across the entire state – so how can we encompass everyone to feel involved? While we have an event in Albany and introduced Type Hunt, we hope that in the future we can continue to grow and celebrate truly statewide in years to come.
What are you looking forward to the most this year?
Giddy with every single part of Design Week actually! Create Upstate might be my personal favorite. Every event hits a different aspect – from workshops, a speaker, and educator roundtable to the conference makes it hard for someone not to like one part or another. And let’s not forget the group of volunteers that dedicated their time making this happen.
