Green Seal™ is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding the environment and transforming the marketplace by promoting the manufacture, purchase and use of environmentally responsible products and services. Green Seal sets standards, monitors advertising claims and certifies products made with postconsumer waste. Mohawk’s uncoated papers made with 30% or more recycled fiber, and coated papers made with 15% or more postconsumer waste fiber have received the Green Seal certification under standards for coated and uncoated printing and writing papers.
The Rainforest Alliance protects ecosystems and the people and wildlife that live within them. The Rainforest Alliance helps businesses, governments and communities change their land-use practices and set standards for the long-term use of resources in over 50 countries. The Rainforest Alliance’s certification program, SmartWood, has granted Mohawk a chain-of-custody certification to manufacture paper in accordance to standards developed by the Forest Stewardship Council—an organization that promotes sustainable forestry practices.
Mohawk has joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership to save fuel, money, and the environment. Launched in 2004, the SmartWay brand was developed jointly by the EPA and charter partners represented by industry stakeholders, environmental groups, American Trucking Associations and Business for Social Responsibility. Partners rely upon SmartWay tools and approaches to track and reduce emissions and fuel use from goods movement.
Mohawk is a member of Two Sides, an initiative by companies from the Graphic Communications Supply Chain including forestry, pulp, paper, inks and chemicals, pre press, press, finishing, publishing and printing. Our common goals are to promote the responsible production and use of print and paper, and dispel common environmental misconceptions by providing users with verifiable information on why print on paper is an attractive, practical and sustainable communications medium.
