Check it out: Paper sculptor Jeff Nishinaka had 24 hours to to create a piece for the Lexus and Microsoft Fresh Perspectives web series. The challenge, initiated by Lexus to promote its new Lexus CT Hybrid, was to six groundbreaking artists, each asked to create a two original works based on the themes of Escape, Challenge and Empower.

Watch the video below to see Nishinaka’s amazing hands at work creating his final piece for the challenge.

Here’s a sneak peek at Nishinaka’s finished piece:

Photographer Todd Seelie, painter Augustine Kofie, chef Craig Thornton, clothing designer Robert James and singer/songwriter V were the other artists who contributed to the project. You can see their videos here.

Nishinaka has been sculpting paper for over 30 years. He has created spectacular works and mesmerizing installations for commercial applications as well as collectors. Many of his pieces can be viewed in his online portfolio. (I had to show you the one below; it made me think of our very own editor at work.) [KR]
